1984 год, Ипсвич, подросток по имени Tommy, всерьез увлекшийся американским хардкором, решает собрать собственную банду. К нему в помощь подключается его друг и ярый поклонник Ramones - Wolfie. Так начинается история пионеров американизированного английского хардкора Stupids. За барабанную установку был посажен Jonathon "Ziggy", довольно быстро покинувший коллектив, отыграв одно шоу и отметившийся в первом demo "Fat, Drunk And Stupid". В итоге Tommy пересаживается за барабаны, а гитару на себя берет его приятель Marty "Tuff". Осенью 1984-го Stupids записывают своё второе demo "Leave Your Ears Behind", вскоре перевыпущенное Children Of The Revolution Records на семидюймовой пластинке под названием "Violent Nun". В январе 1985-го парни записывают три трека для d.i.y. мини-сборника "Putrid Evil" и приступают к работе над дебютным альбомом "Mr. Adult".
Однако, записанный материал не устроил Tommy и компанию и в итоге альбом был переписан заново и вышел в свет в начале 86-го, как "Peruvian Vacation". Пластинка была отлично встречена слушателями и заняла 12 строку в независимых чартах. Вскоре группу покидает Wolfie и появляется новый участник - Ed Shred, изначально исполняющий роль вокалиста на живых выступлениях Stupids, а после взявший на себя и обязанности басиста. Не смотря на это, группа постепенно превращается в проект одного человека, то есть Tommy. Следующий альбом "Retard Picnic" (1986) был записан двумя людьми - непосредственно Tommy (барабаны, вокалы) и Marty (гитара, бас). Летом 1986 года в компании навестивших Tommy друзей американцев (Bob Jones и Stuart Hill) рождается, условно говоря, еще один вариант Stupids. В результате долгих совместных джемов было записано demo, а названием для проекта стало Frankfurter. Между дел группа отмечается в программе Джона Пила и вместе с Ludichrist отправляется в американский тур. Stupids становятся самой популярной хардкор-группой в Европе. Frankfurter играют у Пила на BBC Radio 1, после чего записывают мини - альбом. Результат проделанных работ - пластинка "Stupids / Frankfurter - Van Stupid / Eat". Затем Stupids в компании Hard-Ons покоряют Австралию и выпускают совместный релиз "No Cheese! (The High-Way To Hell Tour Souvenir)". Ed покинул группу летом 88-го, следом ушел Marty и в 1989 в Берлине группа дала свой последний концерт с Mitch Dickinson на гитаре (Unseen Terror, Heresy). В дальнейшем Tommy посвятил себя drum-and-bass сцене, Ed играл в Sink, Big Ray, Chocolate и K-Line. Как и многие их коллеги по цеху, в 2000-х Stupids вернулись на сцену.* * * * *
