Лондонские пост-панк экспериментаторы The Apostles начали свои музыкальные поползновения в далеком 1979 году. Не смотря на нестабильность состава музыкантов, группа вела довольно активную деятельность записывая демо-пленки и выступая в различных злачных местах столицы туманного альбиона и её окрестностей. Первоначально состав коллектива выглядел так: William "Bill" Corbett(вокал), Джулиан Портинари (бас), Дэн Макинтайр (ударные) и Pete Byng-Hall (гитара). Однако "Bill" довольно быстро наигрался и покинул команду не дождавшись ни записи дебютного демо, ни первого выступления. Кстати первый концерт The Apostles отыграли в сентябре 1981. К этому моменту вакантное место у микрофона занял Andy Martin. В последствии остальные оригинальные участники также покинули команду и состав неодноратно подвергался видоизменениям. The Apostles имели весьма неоднозначную репутацию - кто-то их любил и уважал, кто-то не переносил на дух. Хотя группа изначально варилась в местной анархо-панк сцене, сами музыканты пытались открещиваться от такого определения, хотя при этом имели дружеские отношения с корифеями жанра Crass, активно участвовали в сквотерских делах и различных анархо акциях. Andy и бас-гитарист Dave Fanning открыто заявляли о своей нетрадиционной сексуальной ориентации, хотя некоторые спорные темы из более позднего творчества команды, заставили многих обвинить The Apostles в симпатии к фашизму и гомофобии. Короче, как не взгляни на биографию группы, она неоднозначна и интересна. За свой период активности музыканты записали уйму демо пленок и сборников, кучу синглов и альбомов, в которых сам черт ногу сломит. После распада The Apostles музыканты продолжили музицировать под вывеской Academy 23.
