Манчестерские пионеры британского поп-панка Buzzcocks начали играть в 1976 году. Посетив концерт Sex Pistols два приятеля Howard Devoto (настоящее имя Howard Andrew Trafford) и гитарист Pete Shelley (он же Peter Campbell McNeish) решили тоже во что бы то не стало играть подобную музыку. Команду дополнили барабанщик John Maher и басист Steve Diggle. Первый концерт парни отыграли уже в июне 76-го, на этот раз уже деля сцену, а точнее разогревая публику, перед всё теми-же Sex Pistols. А в сентябре парней можно было лицезреть на двух-дневном "100 Club Punk Festival" в Лондоне. Дебютной четырех-песенной пластинкой музыканты порадовали публику уже в январе 77-го, выпущенная на собственные деньги, занятые у отца Shelley. Тираж семерки составил 1000 копий. Вскоре Devoto покидает команду и создает свою группу Magazine, а Shelley берет на себя обязанности основного вокалиста, Diggle переключается на гитару, а за бас гитару берется новобранец Garth Smith. (Различные ранние записи команды с вокалом Devoto, позже будут выпущены на пластинке "Time's Up" ) Записанный новым составом сингл "Orgasm Addict", из-за якобы откровенного текста был тут-же занесен BBC в черный список. Отыграв свою первую сессию у Джона Пила группа попрощалась с бас гитаристом, Гарта заменил Steve Garvey. Сингл «What Do I Get?» по сравнению с предшественником имел довольно хороший успех, а дебютный альбом "Another Music in a Different Kitchen", вышедший в марте 1978, принес музыкантам уже настоящую славу поднявшись до 15 строки в UK Albums Chart. Выпустив еще два успешных альбома и кучу синглов, не прекращая гастролировать, в том числе и в США, группа подошла к логическому концу, обьявив о распаде в 1981 году, так и не закончив работу над четвертым альбомом.
Возродились Buzzcocks уже в 89-ом и по сей день находятся в превосходной форме, радуя поклонников выступлениями и свежими релизами. Последний студийный альбом "The Way" увидел свет в 2014 году.
