Splodgenessabounds собрались в 1978 году в Пэкхаме, юго-восточном районе Лондона. Возглавлял команду некий Max Splodge. Группа играла бодрую смесь панк рока, паб рока, Oi! музыки и шуточного уличного фольклора. С легкой руки Гарри Бушела за командой, как и за их коллегами Peter and the Test Tube Babies и Toy Dolls закрепился термин punk pathetique. «Pathetique-группы являют собой другую грань oi!. Мы тоже представляем рабочий класс, но если кто-то поет о тюрьмах и биржах труда, то мы — о селедках и задницах, и аудитория у нас соответствующая», — говорил Макс Сплодж. Группа в 1980 году трижды входила в британский Top 30, причём уже дебютный сингл «Two Pints of Lager» стал топ-10-хитом. Не смотря на уже солидный возраст, группа все еще находиться в строю, где комфортно себя чувствует, дает концерты и изредка издает новые релизы.
