Ирландская панк группа Stiff Little Fingers была образованна в 1977 году в Белфасте, Отцом основателем коллектива являлся вокало-гитарист Jake Burns. Сначала парни играли различные кавер версии песен рок героев того времени: Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd и Rory Gallagher, но набирающий силу панк-рок не заставил себя долго ждать и вскоре поглотил с головой юных ирландских музыкантов. New York Dolls, Eddie & The Hot Rods, The Damned и Ramones быстро завоевали их сердца, а последние сомнения Джейка бесследно исчезли после знакомства с творчеством The Clash. Новое название группы парни позаимствовали из песни The Vibrators, до этого коллектив носил название Highway Star. Совсем скоро на разогреве The Clash в Белфасте публике предстала новая восходящая звезда панк сцены Stiff Little Fingers. Политизированные яростные и в меру жесткие песни группы быстро пришлись по вкусу публике и конечно-же Джону Пилу, который тут-же начал раскручивать в своем эфире свеже изданную дебютную семерку банды.
"Suspect Device/Wasted Life" был издан на деньги самих музыкантов, но первые 350 копий были распроданы мгновенно. Дебютный полноформатник "Inflammable Material" (1979) стремительно поднялся до 14 строки UK Albums Chart, став одним из образцов классических панк альбомов. Второй альбом группы имел еще больший успех , пластинка красовалась уже на 8 строке хит парада, а одноименный сингл привел музыкантов в передачу Top of the Pops. Постепенно музыка группы принимала более разнообразные и мелодичные формы. Концертник "Hanx!" (1980) и сборник "All the Best" (1983) также имели отличный коммерческий успех. За свою политизированность и симпатию к регги музыкальные критики не раз называли Stiff Little Fingers «ирландскими Clash». Выпустив еще несколько альбомов и исколесив Европу и США, в 1982 году группа прекращает свою деятельность.
Реформировались Stiff Little Fingers в 1987 и с тех самых пор до сих пор твердо стоят на ногах и радуют поклонников живыми выступлениями и свежими релизами.
