Newtown Neurotics собрались в небольшом городке Харлоу в западной части графства Эссекс в 1979 году. Главной движущей силой коллектива и автором материала был Steve Drewett, а музыкальное вдохновение парни черпали из творчества The Clash и Ramones. С приходом к власти Margaret Thatcher в лирике группы появились политические нотки, а сам Steve никогда не скрывал своих социалистических взглядов. Выпустив серию синглов и дебютный альбом Beggars Can Be Choosers (1983) музыканты сократили название команды до The Neurotics, а музыка коллектива приняла более мелодичные и медленные роковые окраски. В общей сложности банда проиграла до 1988-го года, успев выпустить еще четыре альбома. После распада The Neurotics Steve Drewett собрал afrobeat/Punk команду "Indestructible Beat", а в середине 90-х пробовал силы в сольном творчестве, однако спустя еще около десяти лет вновь расставил все по своим местам возродив Newtown Neurotics.
